Dr V Shanta who was the most famous Indian oncologist is no more with us. She died at the age of 93. She was great lady, she was also the chairperson of Adyar Cancer Institute.
Dr V Shanta was suffering from chest pain from tuesday morning. She was at that time in Chennai and due to her health conditions he was admitted to a hospital.
After the doctors saw her and said that she had a massive heart block, which could not be removed. This news was very shocking for her and for her family as well.
Dr V Shanta was known for her work on cancer care and for building the Cancer Institute with her mentor. The institute is known for providing state-of-the-art health care to all patients, irrespective of their economic condition.
Condoling the death of the renowned oncologist Dr V Shanta , Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Dr. V Shanta will be remembered for her outstanding efforts to ensure top quality cancer care. The Cancer Institute at Adyar, Chennai is at the forefront of serving the poor and downtrodden. I recall my visit to the Institute in 2018. Saddened by Dr. V Shanta’s demise. Om Shanti.”
She was really talented and she also won many awards like Magsaysay Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan. Dr Shanta was active till her hospitalisation.
At the time of pandemic she was really worried for the people, she expressed concern about the new challenges to healthcare that was brought by the lockdown, the Cancer Institute said.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “Dr. V Shanta, chairperson of the Adyar Cancer Institute is no more. Forever in service of the poor and needy, she lived in a room within the hospital premises, with the singular mission of cancer cure. A saint, no longer among us.”
