IKEA, which is a part of the Ingka Group and is the leading home furnishings brand in the world from Sweden, is all ready to open its second store. The doors of the second store will get open on December 18, 2020, in Navi Mumbai. It is the second since the first one got open in August 2018 in Hyderabad. The main aim of the retailer is to create by 2030 over 6000 jobs. The presence of IKEA is expected to boost the employment opportunities in Navi Mumbai for the local community.

The store of IKEA is located in the Road of Thane-Belapur which is close to the station of Turbhe and its size is over five lakh sq. Ft. It gets expected that close to 1200 co-workers, that is 40% of the staff will get employed from Navi Mumbi and the rest 70% will be the support staff such as security and housekeeping which will be from and around Ghansoli and Turbhe. The company said that customers can now purchase products after testing and trying.
IKEA further mentioned that its priority is the safety of co-workers and customers. Hence, it is taking several extra cares from its Hyderabad operation as well as from the global measures for ensuring happy and safe experiences to its customers. The company will initially put restrictions on the number of visitors for ensuring good social distancing. They will do so by proper registration of the customers on the website due to which they will get allotted a time slot and day for visiting the store. The public will get the whole process soon as the company is putting it all together.
The Indian branch of India shared a tweet on December 4 regarding the opening of the store. The tweet stated that IKEA is all excited for building an excellent experience in the in-store with all the measures of safety in place as they are closing near to opening the store in the Navi Mumbai. They said that they are opening to the doors for Mumbai on December 18, but their first concern is safety. Hence, they are welcoming visitors, but for everyone’s safe shopping experience, they asked the visitors before visiting to register themselves online. People can also shop in the online store.
Peter Brazel, the CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA India said that they are very excited for as their one of their priority markets in India was always Mumbai. Mumbai will soon face with their fantastic store although they were already present since last year in Mumbai through online. They will also help in the creation of more than six thousand jobs, out of which 50% will be for women. Per Hornell, who is the Market and Expansion Manager, said that they are looking forward to meeting everyone in Mumbai.
