Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij tested Covid positive days after volunteering for vaccine trial.

Anil Vij, Haryana’s Minister of Health, confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to a hospital. Anil Vij, who is also the home minister of the state, has encouraged all those who have recently come into touch with him to get screened. The 67-year-old BJP veteran is a diabetic and recently underwent thigh bone fracture surgery. He had volunteered to enrol in the human phase tests of the vaccine, in which experimental doses were given to over 25,000 people.

The Union Health Ministry, as well as officials administering the trials in the State, claimed that the infection of Anil Vij could not be traced to the vaccine, because even though he was one of the volunteers who obtained the vaccine, it was only the first of two doses, and only after the second, appropriate antibodies formed.

“I have been tested Corona positive. I am admitted in Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt. All those who have come in close contact to me are advised to get themselves tested for corona,” Mr Anil Vij said in his tweet

On Friday, a three-member Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) delegation, the coalition ally of the BJP in Haryana, met with Vij and requested the removal of state-registered cases against farmers involved in the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march against the farm laws of the Centre.

JJP State Unit President Nishan Singh headed the delegation and senior party leader Digvijay Singh Chautala was also a part of it.
Yoga Guru Ramdev also met  Vij on Tuesday, too.
Vij is a senior representative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in control and is a lawmaker from the district of the Ambala Cantt assembly.

On 20 November Vij was the first volunteer to receive Covaxin, Bharat Biotech’s vaccine in Haryana, along with the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR).Vij was the first cabinet minister to receive a dose of a possible COVID-19 vaccine from any State government willingly.

Bharat Biotech, meanwhile has released a statement saying”Covaxin trials are based on a 2-dose schedule, given 28 days apart. The vaccine efficacy will be determined 2 weeks after the 2nd dose.”
