First Black Woman Representing Mississipi Wins Miss USA 2020 Crown


Asya Branch from Mississipi bagged the title on Miss USA 2020 on November 9, 2020. This makes her the first black woman from her state to grab the prestigious title.

Asya Branch created history by bagging the prestigious title of Miss USA 2020. And what makes her win more special is that she is the first black woman to have represented Mississipi in the Miss USA beauty pageant. Therefore her win is absolutely special.

She is currently studying in the University of Mississipi and she will now represent the United States of America in the upcoming Miss Universe beauty pageant. Her win has inspired many. Asya amazed everyone with her personality and intelligence.


We know that the recent anti-racial protests have caused political and civil unrest in the country. And it has to be admitted that Black Americans are subjected to racism many a time. Thus Asya’s win can actually be something to look forward to.

Asya revealed that the is proud to have represented Mississipi and the women of colour. 

Her Statement After The Win

Asya’s joy knew no bounds when the results were announced. And after the pageant, she gave a brief statement. She said that this was an unexpected win as she never even thought that she will be crowned Miss USA someday.

She also added that she is happy that she made her home state Mississipi proud. Also, she dedicated her win for all the women of colour who are still fighting for their rights. 


We know that Asya’s father has been in prison for 10 years. In another interview before the Miss USA pageant, Asya has revealed that she has advocated for criminal justice reform. And her aim is that once the prisoners have served their sentence and they return to the society they should be well accepted by society.

She said that she was deeply inflicted by how her father was treated after he returned from prison. Therefore she wants the world to be a better place for people who have served the punishment for their past deeds.

So now that she has been crowned Miss USA she will be working in this field more effectively.
