A peace deal has been signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan to put an end to the Nagorno-Karabakh territorial dispute.
Nagorno-Karabakh Peace Deal Signed
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been fighting over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh for decades. The entire conflict revolves around a mountain enclave which is being claimed by both the nations. The mountain enclave called Nagorno-Karabakh is officially recognized as a part of Azerbaijan. But as it is under an independent state having a majority of people from Armenian ethnicity, therefore Armenia is claiming the ownership of this mountain enclave.
Although the conflict has been going on for years, things turned worse from September 27, 2020, where a violent war-like situation erupted between both the countries. More than 5000 people lost their lives so far in the recent clashes. Several efforts were being made to end the conflict, but everything went in vain.
Countries like France, Russia and the United States had to be involved in resolving the issues. Therefore, as a result, the Nagorno-Karabakh peace deal has been signed to put an end to the conflict.
The Peace Deal
The conflict over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh resulted in political and civil unrest in both countries. And a proper solution was needed to put an end to the conflict.
We know that the territory legally belongs to Azerbaijan territory. Therefore the Peace Deal that was signed by the Prime Ministers of both the countries in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin states that the Nagarono-Karabakh territory belongs to Azerbaijan rightfully.
Therefore Armenia has no claims over it. In a word, Armenia had to accept defeat after this peace deal. This deal also says that all the areas which have been illegally captured by Armenia should be released. Even the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashiyan said that the decision has been taken for the highest good of everyone.
And peace matters more than anything else. But it seems like the Armenian citizens have not accepted defeat and therefore protests have erupted throughout the country. Many are demanding that Pashiyan should step down from his position because he betrayed his own country.
But he has refused to do so because he hopes that this Nagorno-Karabakh peace deal will restore peace between both the countries forever.
