Sony’s silent hit, Venom will get it’s second installment in 2021

Venom has become Marvel’s favourite Anti-Hero

Critics and fans alike were amused with the chemistry that could be shared between a disgraced journalist and an alien symbiote. Venom came out in October of 2018 and became Sony’s highest grossing October release. The film by Sony made in association with Marvel delivered on all aspects of plot, action and character development. With a sequel soon to hit theatres here’s what we know.

Venom 2 Release Dates

The first film premiered in October of 2018 and made a massive box office collection upwards of 850 Million USD. The studios planned to release the sequel in the same month as the original in 2020. Filming began in November of 2019 and wrapped up by shooting additional scenes in February 2020. The film was directed by renowned CGI actor Andy Serkis who was forced to shift post-production from London to the United States due to the Covid-19 lockdowns.

In light of the shutdown, Sony shifted the films release from 2nd October 2020 to June 2021. It is expected to be released in theatres unless further restrictions are imposed in the coming months.

In the first film we see Eddie Brock get accustomed to merging with the Symbiote Venom. He struggles at first accepting this new reality, but by the end of the film is able to defeat his rival Riot and protect the Earth from an all out symbiote invasion. In the post credits we saw Woody Harrelson as Cleetus Kasady, a serial killer who merges with the Symbiote Carnage. The Second film will star Carnage as Venom’s main antagonist. Woody Harrelson had a brief Cameo in Venom(2018)

Additionally Michelle Williams and Reid Scott will reprise their roles as Anne Weying and Dan Lewis from the first film.

With a massive 150 Million dollar budget the film can not hope to recuperate its cost with an online release and hence has decided to simply wait out the pandemic. Venom(2018) is available on Amazon Prime Video
